It begins today

In a couple of hours we will be boarding the first flight of the trip, Chicago to Istanbul.  After months of planning, packing and training our parents in the art of video chat on skype, we are excited to finally be starting our journey around the world.

The last 3 weeks visiting family and friends have been amazing.  We appreciate all of the hospitality and kindness that was extended, from the salad pizza in NJ to Korean BBQ in DC to yoga class and seafood risotto in North Carolina to the multiple BBQs in Cincinnati and gourmet meals in Chicago – it was all fantastic. Luckily, our pants still (barely) fit!

We cannot remember a time when we had the chance to see and spend time with so many friends and family.  That benefit alone has been great and we realized that we do not get to see all of you nearly enough and we will miss you while we’re abroad.  But enough of the sappy stuff.

As you can see, we took the Chicago El to O’Hare airport as we are now officially car free.  It will be nice not having to pay that insurance bill every month!

When we arrive in Istanbul we will hopefully be met by a driver from our hostel, the Side Hotel.  While we hope to be an experts in negotiating cabs around the world without getting taken for a ride, we thought we would cut ourselves a little slack for the first trip.  We will be in Istanbul for 6 nights and then heading down the coast.  We will be posting our first pictures from our travels in the next couple of days, so stay tuned.

Milo misses you already! (and we do too!)

Glad you made it okay to the airport, okay. Travel safe, and it was great seeing you. Hot Doug’s will be waiting for you when you return in 2010!

By the way, where’s the picture of our neighborly Chips Ahoy-loving squirrel? ha!

I can not wait for Hot Doug’s. Although the kabobs here in Istanbul are quite tasty. Also I managed to get a solid enough internet connection this morning to upload the Cookie Squirrel on facebook, be sure to check it out.
